At Bali Direct Store, we believe sustainability isn’t just about what we sell—it’s about what happens after the food is consumed.
That’s why we’re proud to partner with Jiwa Community Garden, a local initiative helping turn food waste into something valuable: healthy, nutrient-rich compost.
Every month, Jiwa Community Garden collects and composts more than two tonnes of organic material from Bali Direct Store. This includes fruit and vegetable trimmings, spoiled produce, and other organic matter that would otherwise be sent to Bali’s already overflowing landfills.
Organic waste is one of the largest contributors to landfill volumes across the island. When food waste ends up buried in landfill sites, it not only occupies valuable space but also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions as it decomposes without oxygen.
Composting offers a better alternative.

Through our partnership, organic material that would otherwise become waste is transformed into compost that enriches the soil and supports local food production. Jiwa Community Garden uses this compost to nourish its gardens, helping grow healthy plants while improving soil health naturally.
For us, this partnership is about more than waste reduction. It is about creating a circular system where resources remain in use rather than being discarded.
And this is only the beginning.
In the future, we plan to make this compost available to Bali Direct Store customers, allowing you to nourish your own gardens, vegetable patches, and potted plants using compost created from materials that once passed through our stores.
