Bali Grown Aquaponics had been our dream for the past several years that became our reality in 2017 when we designed and built our first urban Aquaponic and hydroponic farm in Pejeng, Bali. The lack of available “real organic” produce in Bali created a niche market of premium high-quality produce supplying a multitude of amazing restaurants and retreat centers that host millions of people each year coming to immerse in culture, yoga, spirituality, and well-being.
Over the past decade, some Bali farms have risen to the local “organic” challenge, but for a few farmers including us, “pesticide-free” agriculture was not good enough anymore. ‘Hydroponic’ farms emerged, offering an upgrade on previous growing methods. However, these high-volume commercial farms were quickly contracted by celebrity chefs and large hotel and grocery chains leaving a large gap between supply and demand for the community’s organic produce needs.
We have learned that innovation along with education and awareness must go hand in hand. This created the opportunity for us to utilize our family’s collective knowledge in organic farming, urban gardening, Ayurveda, and holistic medicine to become innovative leaders in Bali’s small-scale aquaponic, hydroponic, and biodynamic urban farming.
Since 2017, we have designed and built several “clean production” hydroponic and aquaponic installations throughout Indonesia. We stress ‘clean’ because being free of parasites, E.coli, and toxic metals are central to our organic mission. We also choose a sustainable model for sizing our farms and limiting production that allows us to control produce quality that we can happily guarantee.
We specialize in growing “clean organic & sexy” produce utilizing water conservation techniques with rain capture and reverse osmosis technology with both hydroponics and aquaponics to provide premium salad and leafy greens, baby spinach, heirloom, and cherry tomatoes, micro greens, celery and more.
During the Covid pandemic, we were forced to close our original urban farm in Pejeng, and faced the choice to quit the business or to make a fresh start. We chose to take another chance and put all of our resources into creating a new urban farm near our family home in Mas, Ubud. Since then, we have been steadily growing. Now we have a second small greenhouse in the Kintamani area for growing crops that require cooler temperatures.
In December 2022 we partnered with Bali Direct which not only created a solution for delivery logistics to reach new customers but also helped us with brand recognition and increased sales. We have yet to scale up our production to meet our demand, but with the support from our partnership with Bali Direct, we are beginning to repair and renovate our Mas farm so we can grow more of the best organic produce year-round, harvest fresh daily, and deliver directly from our urban farm to your door anywhere in Bali.
