Something new on the shelves
We love this part of the job. A new grower walks in with a box of something good, we taste it, and we can’t wait to put it in front of you. This month there’s a lot of it.
Meet Kedungu Garden

Kedungu Garden is our newest supplier, Aun is a local grower in Kedungu, on the Tabanan coast, best known for herbal teas and botanical blends from their own garden. They’ve brought us two things we’re very glad to have, both in our Pererenan store now, coming soon to the other stores, and online as well. Let us know if you want to see these online too!
Sprouts

They arrive in sturdy plastic boxes that come back to us when you’re done, so the box gets used again and again rather than thrown away. Sprouts are about the freshest thing you can eat: crunchy, green and alive with flavour. Pile them on toast, fold them into a wrap, or scatter a handful over almost anything.
Stingless Bee Honey

If you’ve only known ordinary honey, this one will surprise you. In Bali it’s called madu kele-kele, made by tiny native bees that have no sting at all. The bees store their honey in little pots built from wax and plant resin, and that gives it a character all its own: thinner than you’d expect, tart and bright, with a gentle resinous finish. It’s made in small amounts, so every jar is a treat. Look for Kele Kele Honey Sour on our shelves, and try a spoonful from the tester jar in Pererenan before you buy. It’s best used medicinally and consciously, as a precious resource harvested sustainably.
Our Three Bali Direct Kitchen Soups

From our own kitchen, three soups we’re proud of:
- Pumpkin Soup: pumpkin with coconut cream, ginger, turmeric and a little nutmeg. Smooth, golden and gently warming.
- Green Vitality Soup: broccoli, spinach, zucchini and basil, with coconut cream and ginger. Fresh, green and bright.
- Red Lentil Soup: red lentils with tomato, bell pepper, carrot, celery and cumin. Hearty and properly filling.
Each comes in a 470 g pot, made with our own organic vegetable stock.
Now for the options to level-up: Greek Yoghurt or Coconut Yoghurt from Milk Up, Shy Cow or Moo! They are all great!
Spoon a little Cheeky Lemon Chili Crisp over the top. It’s made in small batches here in Bali: crispy shallots, garlic and peanuts in oil, warmed with Sichuan pepper, star anise and cardamom. That crunch and slow, fragrant heat turns a good bowl into one you’ll be thinking about the next day. It’s especially good on the pumpkin, where the sweetness meets the spice, and on the lentil it brings out the cumin.
A note on the seasons
It’s hot. The rains haven’t come yet, and everyone on the island can feel it. For the farmers who grow our food, a long dry spell means hard work: more watering, thirstier crops, and some harvests coming in smaller than usual. If something you love is missing from the shelf for a week, the weather is often why. We’ll always tell you when we know.
For the rest of us, it’s a season for light, easy food. Sprouts are made for it: fresh, crunchy and ready in seconds, no cooking needed. A bowl of soup with a spoonful of chili crisp is a quick dinner that doesn’t keep the stove on for an hour. And drink more water than you think you need. On days this hot, a drink should feel like an adventure. Ours come in every colour of the island, packed with flavour and goodness, as good for the imagination as for the body. When the rain does come, the island will turn green again almost overnight. Until then, stay cool, eat fresh, and come and see what’s new.
