November is when Bali’s soil gives back and this month, we’re celebrating the roots that ground us — and the local growers who bring them to life. The Roots & Earth campaign is about rediscovering what it means to eat locally and seasonally and to celebrate the roots that feed, heal and connect us.

Meet Jicama (Bengkuang): Bali’s Crisp, Cooling Root

Jicama, known locally as bengkuang, is one of Bali’s most refreshing underground treasures.
Crisp, lightly sweet, and over 85% water, it’s a natural hydrator during the hot and rainy season. Rich in inulin — a prebiotic fibre — jicama is great for gut health, digestion, and balanced energy.
Whether sliced into salads or paired with another ground superstar, such as our Spicy Peanut Sauce, Jicama brings a cool, clean taste of the earth to your table.

Temuku Pupuan is a family-owned enterprise with a solid and proven commitment to organic farming and artisanal production. They have some special root products which feature in our Roots & Earth celebration. Their pumpkin soup is out of this world delicious and their Taro and Thyme, Sweet Potato and Rosemary and Pumpkin pita chips are home-made and oven-baked with all natural ingredients.
