Opor Ayam Recipe

Happy Eid Mubarak to all of our Muslim friends!

In Indonesia, people usually go to their hometowns to celebrate this beautiful day with their family and loved ones. There are a few beloved dishes that are traditional for the Lebaran dinner or lunch. One of these is Opor Ayam, chicken braised in coconut milk. Today, we will walk through the steps so you can make it at home.

Ingredients

Half-whole organic chicken

300 ml of milk

125 ml thick coconut milk

Lime leaves

Crushed galangal

Bay leaf

1 stalk of lemongrass

1 tsp Maseko chicken stock powder

2 tsp tamarind water

2 eggs

Cooking Oil

“Bumbu Halus”

5 cloves of garlic

3 shallots

1 hazelnut Ginger

1 tbsp coriander

Salt

Pepper

Cumin

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil and sauté the “Bumbu Halus” until you smell a fragrant aroma.

  2. Add galangal, lemon grass, bay leaves, and lime leaves.

  3. After the seasoning is ready, add the chicken and wait until it is cooked.

  4. Pour in the milk and let it boil.

  5. Add coconut milk, tamarind water, and eggs.

  6. Remove after the chicken is perfectly cooked.

  7. Serve warm with chili sauce to make it even better.
